On October 8th, 2001, Brianna Grace was born a healthy 10 lb. 8oz. baby girl. Her development was
normal until December 28th, 2002, when she had her first seizure brought on by a fever. As she recovered,we were told this
was a common occurrence and not to be concerned. Once again, in early January, she had another seizure, and this was classified
as a complex partial seizure. Again, the doctors did not seem too concerned by this, but they wanted to do an EEG just to
get an idea of what might be developing. On January 28th, 2003, Brianna was admitted to St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston,
NJ, for a 48 hour EEG. This showed a slight spiking in her left frontal lobe. We were then waiting for an appointment in mid
February with a neurologist for some answers. But on February 14th, 2003, Brianna was having seizures every half an hour.
She was staring off to the left side, her tongue was making a clicking sound and her pupils were fixed and dilated. We immediately
took her to the ER where a neurologist saw her and told us not to be alarmed, children have seizures often and grow
out of them. The longer we were at the hospital, the more frequent the seizures became. The doctors gave her anti-convulsants,
but her seizures continued and they became as close together as every 3 minutes.
This is how the Hope For Brianna story begins.
